- Preheat oven to 425°F. In a large mixing bowl, cut butter into flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Make a well and pour in buttermilk. Mix with hand mixer on low speed until just combined.
- Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and need 3-4 times. Pat or lightly roll to a 3/4 in thickness and cut into circles with a floured biscuit cutter or the rim of a small glass.
- Arrange biscuits on a greased or lined baking sheet and bake until golden brown on top, 11-13 minutes. Brush tops with melted butter and serve warm with your choice of butter, clotted cream, jam, or gravy.
- *DIY self-rising flour: If you don't have self-rising flour, don't worry! You can substitute a combination of 1 cup all-purpose flour, 1 1/2 tsp baking powder, and 1/4 tsp salt, whisked together, for every cup of self-rising flour.
